CERYX

Control your railway infrastructure

Project Description

The mobility policy in Europe has undergone many changes during the last few years with the rail at the heart of the strategy. Consequently, the market has evolved rapidly on many points, especially concerning the interoperability of networks and their exploitation by new actors. Rail companies can now access new networks to develop their business, however, the composition of exploitation rates show large differences across Europe which make it harder for a rail carrier to expand its business abroad. The complexity of fees calculation is slowing down the ability of rail transporters to improve their ROI, confronted to the difficulty to forecast infrastructures’ invoices and even checking them.

We, at Itersys, have developed a fully integrated solution to solve all the issues and allow your company to anticipate the future with serenity. The core system of CERYX has the capability to calculate the costs related to railway infrastructure, from reserving or cancelling a path to the fees of usage and other extra costs (Energy, Service on Platform, and so on…), which makes it the ideal tool to foresee the future regarding your budget for infrastructure expenses and keeping the control from day-to-day.

On top of this powerful feature, we implement various other functionalities to give you the best control over your businesses expenses. Among those, you can :

  • Calculate the costs linked to the trains circulations (energy, services, cleaning…)
  • Track the costs of various items of expenditure planned / realized / simulated (available with the simulation module)
  • Check the invoices received and details of the differences with those calculated by the tool (thanks to the invoice comparison module)
  • Import your transport plans (realized , projected or simulated )
  • Do a Quick simulation of a single journey (on one or more networks to give you an idea of the potential cost of a route before doing a full simulation)
  • Configure your own dashboard containing the most important information with ergonomics graphs
  • Create new sections and routes from existing network points (with consistency check)
  • Duplicate / modify existing roads
  • Administrate the network data

Last, but not least, our software is made to be highly customizable and will meet the needs and specificities of your company.

To perform all those tasks CERYX is composed by three independent modules, allowing you to choose what features you need the most :

  • Invoice comparison : This module allows you to automatically import your invoices from the infrastructure manager and find out if there’s discrepancies with the CERYX calculation. In this case, you’ll be able to summarize all the errors which will lead to the creation of a claim file.
  • Simulation : Wondering what could be the best transport plan for the future? Or, simply checking the potential of a new route? The simulation part is here to help you evaluating the cost of a full transport plan or finding the best parameter combination to gain the best ROI before opening a new route.
  • Pricing system : Specially created for the freight companies, it can help you to define the real cost of a cargo and propose to your end customer the best offer available.

FINANCIAL FORECASTING

Business planning

Project Description

The Financial Forecasting Tool allows a railway company to elaborate extremely precise simulations for all of their business plans over long periods of time, thanks to a set of advanced modules that calculate every entry of cost and revenue of the company and their simultaneous impacts.

The software was initially developed to calculate the exact cost of a rail booking (based on itinerary, day, hour, station stops, electricity costs…) for trains running on several networks, for a same journey (France-Eurotunnel-UK, France-Belgium-Netherlands…) in order to control the network manager bills and proceed to strategic planning through simulations.

The second step consisted in implementing all the other costs and revenues of the railway company in order to build a comprehensive tool able to simulate business plans over long periods: human resources, all costs related to the running trains, communication and marketing, ticket sales… These entries can either be implemented manually or automatically through software connections or imports. The third step of the project has been dedicated to the simulation functionalities to make this big data easily manageable.

With such an advanced tool, a business manager can identify the precise cost and expected revenue of strategic financial decisions. The application can also recollect data from past periods, either manually or automatically by connecting with other applications, and report expected vs. achieved results to adapt prognosis.

The main challenge of the development consisted in building an evolving application, based on a very high amount of data and other applications not existent at the time of the project analysis. The versions allowed to refine some of the settings and to replace hard data by calculations in the lines of the business plan.

Itersys brought its transportation sector expertise as well as the best practices of Open source development (Apache, PHP and MySQL) to this project: flexibility, adaptability and limited cost mixed with a Prince2/Agile methodology blend. The tailor-made solution evolved thanks to the versioning and the multiple testing phases that allowed to strongly.

HR Tools

Payroll Management Systems

Project Description

The Payment Management System is a web application designed to calculate the bonuses and other specific inducements that the delegated personnel from national railway companies (SNCF/SNCB) are entitled to when working for an international railway company such as Eurostar or Thalys.

The application is a key support tool to manage existing contracts, career history and many other personal elements that determine the delegated employee salaries.

Technically, the application is constituted of a database of personal information that is connected to calculation rules and functionalities to collect/read timesheet data and export official payslips.

The main challenge of such a product is the high complexity of the benefits entitlement rules that require many competing calculation rules as well as the specifics of the national railway companies’ time/activity tracking systems.

Thanks to its sound knowledge of the field, Itersys has been able to bring to its clients a tailor made solution that allows to create and unify the payment systems into an integrated web based solution.

Railway Infrastructure Costs

Cost of train paths

Project Description

The Infrastructure Cost Tool allows a railway company to simulate the detailed infrastructure cost for trains running simultaneously in different countries. This tool has both controlling and reporting features as well as simulation functionalities to analyze the cost of new routes.

The software calculates the exact cost of a rail booking based on itinerary, day, hour, station stops, delays, electricity cost… for trains running on several networks for a same journey (France-Eurotunnel-UK, France-Belgium-Netherlands…) in order to control the network managers’ bills and proceed to strategic planning through simulations.

Business managers can elaborate detailed simulations of the exact cost for opening new routes or stations, adding or editing train running times… Financial controllers can proceed to advanced reporting and import the infrastructure managers’ bills to automatically identify discrepancies.

This tailor-made application can be plugged for input or output to operational tools such as railway planning and booking applications, financial reporting tools, HR tools.

Passenger Information Systems

Data Management Systems

Project Description

The passenger information system is a multilingual tool developed to publish messages on multiple platforms (website, mobile app, SMS, email). The software’s main purpose is to provide real-time information about train schedules and delays but the content is not limited.

The features of this web based application include the creation and edition of pre-formatted messages in 4 languages (French, English, German, and Dutch), as well as the selection of trains linked to traveler databases (email listings, phone numbers…). The application can either publish messages and timetables on the Front end of the website (and the mobile) or send individual messages to the registered passengers. The tool also contains a reporting interface.

Technically, the application can produce the messages or import pre-edited messages from other tools (SMS editor). It also communicates with CRMs to collect contact details and email/SMS delivery platforms from specialized providers to distribute the messages.

The product challenge lies in the wide amount of information processed and the criticality of the live impact for the clients of any misuse of the application.
